Khan explains why he is fighting in Saudi Arabia

Amir Khan hinted he intends to continue fighting in Saudi Arabia in the future after branding the country "the future".

Khan will take on Billy Dib in Jeddah next Friday, July 12 in a huge event being heavily backed by the country at the King Abdullah Sports City's Arena.

Having recently spent time in the city promoting the bout, which was originally due to be against Indian boxer Neeraj Goyat before he was injured in a car crash, Khan says his perceptions of the country have changed.

He has now suggested he will be heading back to Jeddah for further fights in the future despite still having offers to step into the ring in the UK, America and elsewhere.

Khan told Arab News: “I have options to fight in America, England and Europe, but I came to Saudi because I know the future is here.

“I have to think about the future, and that is the reason I am now in Saudi Arabia.

“I have spent over two weeks here already, and I have to say it is one of my favorite countries.

“The Kingdom is so peaceful, and Makkah is around the corner, so I went there to do my prayers."

Khan is the overwhelming favourite to defeat former featherweight world champion Dib, who recently declared the huge fight is dream occasion.

"I always dreamed to be involved in a fight of this magnitude," Dib wrote on Twitter .

"After 20 years in the sport of boxing it’s finally happening. I have faced great champions in the past but facing Amir Khan is definitely my toughest test."
