McIlroy insists he wouldn’t trade his record this season with Koepka

‘I don’t envy Brooks Koepka’: Rory McIlroy insists he wouldn’t trade his record this season with world No 1

  • Koepka won US PGA Championship and was runner-up at Masters and US Open
  • McIlroy boasts the best record this season of two wins and 11 top ten finishes
  • The pair will go head-to-head at the Open at Royal Portrush next week

Rory McIlroy wouldn’t trade his season for that of world No 1 Brooks Koepka, who defended the US PGA Championship and finished runner-up at the Masters and US Open.

The Northern Irishman pointed to the fact he’s had two wins and 11 top tens — more than any other player.

‘I wouldn’t trade, no,’ said McIlroy.

Rory McIlroy will seek to build on his two wins and 11 top 10 finishes at the Scottish Open

‘I look at Brooks at the majors and think, “Wow, if he produced that sort of stuff every week, it would be tough to compete”. Why he doesn’t I’ve no idea, but he obviously puts more emphasis on majors.’

McIlroy, who plays in Thursday’s Scottish Open, was asked whether he had one eye on the Open next week.

‘I’m playing this event with two eyes firmly focused on the Scottish Open,’ he said.
