The closer market might not be too bad this year leading up to the trade deadline.
According to The Athletic, several clubs believe the Padres could make closer Kirby Yates available at the deadline, and by sheer production, there may be no better reliever on the market.
Yates is a perfect 23 for 23 in save opportunities this year with a 0.96 ERA.
He’s not the typical power closer as he sits in the low-90s with his fastball, but his control is very good (8 BBs in 28 IP) and he still finds ways to strike men out at a high rate with an absolutely nasty splitter (48 Ks in 28 IP).
