Cricket great Allan Border has laid into Australia A after a shambolic final session to day two of the tour match against the Indians at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The Indians piled on 170 runs for the loss of just one wicket under lights on Saturday, with Hanuma Vihari and Rishabh Pant both notching centuries — the latter blasting 22 runs off the final over to bring up his ton on the last ball of the day.

Border EVISCERATES Australia A’s effort
Cricket: Former captain Allan Border has slammed the Australian A side for their effort in the field against India during the second tour match.
Border has no issue with an Australian cricket team being outplayed but he labelled Saturday night’s final session “disgraceful”.
“One of the worst, (most) lethargic performances I have seen in the last session of any cricket,” Border said on Fox Cricket ahead of play on day three. “This is Australia A, they are representing Australia, they are young blokes trying to make their way. That fielding performance, bowling performance, captaincy performance – an absolute disgrace. Not up to scratch at all.”
And Border, who ushered in an Australian era of greatness as captain, encouraged any member of the team who had an issue with his critique to seek him out.
“I’m happy for any of those guys to come talk to me about what was going on yesterday afternoon and stand corrected but very ordinary stuff.”
Pant slams 4,4,6,4,4 to get last ball ton!
Cricket: Rishabh Pant slammed 22 of the last 5 deliveries of Day 2 against Australia A to register an entertaining century.
The Australians have not been helped by a brutal run of injuries and concussions over the past week. Last week Australia A lost the services of Will Pucovski to concussion, and at the SCG both Cameron Green and Harry Conway suffered concussions on the opening day’s play. To make matters worse, a calf complaint took Sean Abbott out of bowling duties on Saturday.
Nevertheless, Border doubled down when the action started on day three, going as far as saying Alex Carey’s side “gave up” in the final session.
“You can handle getting beaten and we’ve put in some poor performances, I’ve been a part of quite a few, but I don’t think you have ever accused Australian sides of not having a go,” he said.
“You can get beaten fair and square and have a tough day at the office, that happens, but it’s just your attitude, I’m not blaming them all but it was just in general.
“8:30 last night, if I am the coach of that team I would have been sending out some pretty terse messages about lifting your expletive expletive game because otherwise you’re out of there and I’ll get the under 16s from the Mossman cricket club to come and do a better job.
“Just not good enough boys I’m afraid, I don’t often have a crack but after last night you deserve it.”
"It’s a sad sight" – Burns horror run drought continues
Cricket: Joe Burns’ horror run with the bat has continued as he departed the crease with just one run to his name against India A.
The Pant-inspired carnage saw Mitchell Swepson finish with figures of 1-148 leaving him unpickable in Border’s eyes, but the former skipper said the leggie was not helped by captain Alex Carey.
“He (Swepson) just got butchered, as simple as that,” he said. “I can’t pick him from what I saw yesterday. I’m not saying he didn’t try, he had a bit of a go but the Indians had no trouble whatsoever and he got absolutely belted.
“If Alex Carey is in line to be an Australian captain, he has got a lot of work to do for me. He has gone down quite afew pegs. He is a good cricketer Alex Carey, he has got a bit of energy himself, but yesterday he should have reacted to the way the general feel around the team was.”
