Young gun’s ‘traumatic’ injury scare

West Australian all-rounder Cameron Green has left the field of play at the SCG after he was struck in the head during Australia A’s day-night match against India.

Green was bowling from the southern end of the ground on Friday afternoon when India tailender Jasprit Bumrah slapped a delivery back towards the pace bowler.

The 21-year-old attempted to evade the powerful shot, but the ball burst through his fingers and struck him on the head.

Green immediately dropped to his knees, as the Indian batsmen and Australian teammates rushed to his assistance.

After medics sprinted onto the ground, Green made his way into the changerooms unaided, and thankfully seemed in good spirits as spectators applauded from the Members’ Stand.

Green bowled 6.1 overs on Friday afternoon, finishing the innings with figures of 1/20 including the key breakthrough of Indian No. 3 Shubman Gill.

After suffering a dire collapse of 7/21, India recovered in the twilight session to be bowled out for 194.

Earlier this week, Victorian opening batsman Will Pucovski was struck in the helmet by a bouncer during Australia A’s warm-up match against India A at Drummoyne Oval.

The 22-year-old was withdrawn from the subsequent fixture in Sydney, and remains in doubt for the first Test match against India at Adelaide Oval.

Another injury scare for Australia: Cameron Green takes one on the side of the head from a Jasprit Bumrah drive. Struck firmly. He was back on his feet fairly quickly, but leaves the field for further assessment #AUSvIND #AUSAvIND

I mean I thought maybe we were a little bit screwed but like if Cam Green is concussed or injured and can’t play the first Test we are really screwed 😬#AUSAvIND

Cameron Green is off the ground after being struck on the head in his following through. Looked nasty but he seemed ok afterwards, walking off unaided and acknowledging applause from crowd. No word yet from Cricket Australia.

Bumrah is not renowned for his batting – before this tour match, he boasted a high score of 16 not out in first-class cricket.

But the swash-buckling No. 10 put on a big-hitting masterclass at the SCG, plundering six boundaries and two sixes to finish the innings on 55 not out.

The 27-year-old combined with Mohammed Siraj (22) to put together a critical 10th wicket partnership of 71, the highlight from India’s pitiful batting performance.
