Mayweather is himself set to return to the ring next year as he takes on YouTube star Logan Paul.
Mayweather, 43, ended his career unbeaten in all 50 if his bouts and is regarded as one of the best of all-time.
The American last fought back in 2017 when he beat UFC star Conor McGregor.
Paul, 25, has fought once professionally, losing to fellow Youtuber KSI in November 2019.
There had been speculation this fight would take place for month with Paul taunting Mayweather repeatedly to his 22 million YouTube subscribers.
The pair have also exchanged insults on social media hyping they may meet in the ring.
Joshua is hoping to beat Pulev impressively tonight as he eyes a fight with Tyson Fury in 2021.
Derek Chisora would not be surprised if Pulev were to come out on top.
“It isn’t going to be no shock [if Pulev wins],” Chisora told Sky Sports News.
“This is why we love boxing, because there are two fighters in the ring and one has to lose and one has to win.
“So if AJ loses, it’s not a shock. If Pulev wins, it’s not a shock.
“Again, it’s the name of the game. People always make it like: ‘When you get into boxing, you shouldn’t lose any fights because you’re amazing’.
“Sometimes you have to lose to bounce back. Whatever happens today, it will be a great fight.
“There’s no pressure, [Joshua] just knows he has to take care of Pulev first and then after that, take care of somebody else.
“Then when the fight happens, him and the big man Tyson Fury.”
