Chris Eubank Sr is threatening to pull his son out of his clash with Conor Benn.

Eubank Jr, 32, is set to meet Benn on October 8 at the O2 in London in a battle between the sons of two British boxing legends. The pair’s fight is set for a 157lb catchweight contest which is 3lb lighter than Eubank has ever tipped the scales in his career.

Despite, Eubank Sr’s claims, the fight is not off and sources have indicated that his son is training as normal in preparation for the bout. But the former two-weight world champion wants his son pulled out because of the weight.

There is also a rehydration clause which means Eubank Jr cannot put on more than a set amount between Friday’s weigh-in and a check weigh-in on Saturday morning at 11am. That is believed to be less than 10lb.

Eubank Sr told Daily Mail: “My son’s life cannot be put in danger. I’ve already lost one. It can’t happen again.”

Eubank Sr’s son Sebastian died last year after he suffered a heart attack while swimming in Dubai. He added: “‘If you have a child and someone’s trying to actually take that child away from you, and do something wrong to that child, as a dad you wouldn’t let them. That’s all I’m doing.

“‘I’ve given him my direction. If he doesn’t want to follow it, he will be dragged along. But he will do what is right for him.

“He is coming down 1oz below 160lbs which cannot happen on my watch. “This is modern day “gladiating”, this is not a play thing for the audience.

“We have to be strict otherwise lives are put in danger and my son’s life cannot be put in danger. I’ve already lost one. It can’t happen again.” Eubank Jr wants his dad to be in his corner for the fight but that now looks unlikely to happen unless there is a major change.
