MMA fighter Ahmad Al Darmaki has been widely condemned after his despicable actions during his latest fight in Abu Dhabi.
Up against Bogdan Kirilenko, Al Darmaki had the dominant position on the ground before taking his opponent’s back and locking in a rear naked choke.

The submission move was locked in tight and forced the tap from Kirilenko, but things then turned ugly.
Al Darmaki refused to let go of the choke hold despite being told the fight was over by referee Marc Goddard.
Goddard began pulling on Al Darmaki’s arm to stop the submission move and when he finally let go, Goddard stood over him and began giving him an earful.
Despite not letting the move go when he should have, Al Darmaki took exception to the referee and an altercation broke out with the MMA fighter shoving the official before grabbing his collar.
His corner ran in shortly after the confrontation ended and Al Darmaki went on to celebrate his victory before he was ultimately disqualified.

The wild scenes were slammed by ESPN journalist Ariel Helwani, who called for a much larger sanction to be handed down to the fighter.
“Great job by Goddard. Despicable behaviour by Al Darmaki. Holds onto the choke way too long and then gets physical with the ref. Unacceptable behaviour. Should be DQ’d, suspended and fined,” Helwani wrote on Twitter.
MMA reporter Jim Edwards wasn’t happy with the way Al Darmaki acted, but said he was definitely picking on the wrong man by going after Goddard.
“I would absolutely pick Marc Goddard here. In all seriousness, don’t treat a referee like that,” he wrote.
MMA Junkie journalist Farah Hannoun labelled the ending to the fight and what happened in the aftermath “inexcusable”.
“After submitting Bogdan Kirilenko, Ahmad Al Darmaki was DQ’d for shoving Marc Goddard & getting in his face. Darmaki held onto the choke for too long after Kirilenko tapped & when Goddard tried to pull him off, Darmaki got heated. Inexcusable behaviour by Darmaki,” she wrote.
It isn’t the first time Goddard has been involved in a confrontation in the Octagon after having a run-in with Conor McGregor back in 2017. But the latest incident clearly didn’t faze the hulking referee.
All in a days work! 😊
Man, am I ready for home! I love the UAE, and it’s people. ❤️
