WHAT THE JOCKEYS SAID
HUGH BOWMAN (WINX) 1ST
“I’m just so proud of the horse. I can’t believe it, I really thought in the build-up to this that I’d get quite emotional. I am feeling emotional but the electricity that came through my body turning into the home straight just then was something I didn’t just get to feel, but hopefully everybody else watching. I’m lost for words. Everybody watching her gets so much pleasure from her, out of her superb ability. The fact she’s been able to do so many times consecutively just speaks volumes of the management of her.”
OISIN MURPHY (BENBATL) 2ND
“It was a big run. We met a champion in Winx and she was very impressive today. Full credit to her team.”
DAMIAN LANE (HUMIDOR) 3RD
“He was terrific. Obviously we followed her (Winx) the whole way and down the side when she quickened around them, I couldn’t go with her. He was brave into third (place), he tried hard.”
GLYN SCHOFIELD (AVILIUS) 4TH
“He ran super. I came round the corner with a bit of horse under me and he gave me a really good kick. I couldn’t be happier with my horse.” Ryan Moore (Rostropovich) 5th: “He’s run a nice race but he had to do a lot of hard work. The mare’s a champion, it was nice to see her.”
KERRIN MCEVOY (D’ARGENTO) 6TH
“We got into a nice rhythm but it was just a case of him not using his stride efficiently around Moonee Valley that ended up bringing him undone.”
CHRIS JOHNSON (SAVVY COUP) 7TH
“They got her off the bit at the 400m and she was just sort of one-paced from there.”
JOHN ALLEN (KINGS WILL DREAM) DID NOT FINISH
“It felt just when he left the gates … it was as if he hit a nerve or something because his action was bad for a few strides and then he came good. Once I turned the corner, it was like he hit a nerve again and his action just went to bits so we pulled him up.”

HOW THE RACE WAS WON
Winx jumps almost surprisingly well. Stablemate D’Argento was the first to jump.
D’Argento in front from Benbatl. Rostropovich is third with Winx on his outside not far away. She’s closer than expected.
D’Argento a clear leader from Benbatl. Rostropovich is third but four wide. Winx is three wide in fourth placing.
D’Argento still in front with Rostropovich having worked up into second placing. Benabtl is third with Savvy Coup on his inside. Bowman has slotted Winx into fifth, two off the fence.
No change in that order until the 650m mark
Bowman makes his move and has eased Winx into a three wide position in fifth placing and she looks poised. Rostropovich has hit the front from D’Argento. Next Benbatl and Savvy Coup.
350M TO GO
Winx looms up ominously four wide. Benbatl is trying to go with her. Rostropovich and D’Argento still there on the fence. Humidor is trying to follow Winx into the race.
Winx takes the lead with Benbatl trying to stay with her.
