Raceday focus: Sandown Lakeside tips, odds and race-by-race analysis

Herald Sun form analyst Brad Waters runs the rule over the Wednesday card at Sandown

BEST BET

MEDIEVAL MISS (Race 4 No. 5 – $5)

Chased well behind the strong winner Hard ‘N’ Tough on this track last time. Medieval Miss looked as though 2400m would be perfect for her and she gets that distance here. She also drops in class.

NEXT BEST

SETANTA (Race 3 No. 4 – $4.60)

Setanta showed ability in Sydney as a two-year-old before resuming with an easy win at Warrnambool on New Year’s Eve. This well-bred colt looks smart and can go on with it at Sandown.

CAMPESE (Race 5 No. 1 – $4.20)

Started favourite and not disgraced behind the promising Zac De Boss at Caulfield. He might find this a touch easier and jumping to 1600m might be what he needs to break through for a win on Wednesday.

SAVALONA (Race 7 No. 1 – $6.50)

Savalona was a good debut winner at Colac but didn’t have the best of luck at Geelong at her second go. The Danny O’Brien-trained filly will be better for that run and can bounce back this time.

VALUE BET

POWER BOOM (Race 6 No. 4 – $7.50)

Power Boom has chased the smart Miss Albania home at her last two starts but gets her chance to notch a win back in Benchmark 64 grade on Wednesday. There will be enough speed on so expecting her to be running on hard.

THE JOCKEY

DAMIAN LANE

Damian Lane punched home a double at Flemington last Saturday after notching a win at the Caulfield midweek meeting before that. He’s riding well and has six mounts at Sandown on Wednesday.
