Track: Good 4. Rail: Out 3m

Overview: I thought the gap between Converge and Maurice’s Medad was too large here and I’m happy to be with Maurice’s Medad at the odds. He was good at Hawkesbury last start against the older horses and appears as if he will run the trip. Converge is similar and he did beat Gin Martini home who in turn defeated Maurice’s Medad the start prior narrowly. Akahata looks the improver at odds up to the mile.

SUGGESTED BET: Maurice’s Medad to win.

Overview: Ellsberg was backed as soon as the market went up and he does look the horse to beat with no weight on his back. He trialled well and his form last time in was super. Private Eye hit the running rail first-up in the Darby Munro and forget he went around there. He gets the blinkers on and has trialled well since with that head gear. Rainbow Connection is a real line chaser and isn’t hopeless at odds either.

SUGGESTED BET: Leaning to Ellsberg.

Overview: Looks a two horse race for mine between Pandano and Great News. I didn’t think the gap would be as large as it is between the two and I’ll lean the way of Pandano from the good draw. He gets James McDonald aboard here and maps beautifully. Great News is flying particularly coming off a terrific effort at Rosehill last start on a day when you needed to be on the fence and she wasn’t. She just needs luck from the draw and she is the horse to beat. Cristal Breeze next best.

SUGGESTED BET: Pandano and Great News look the two standout hopes. I’ve backed them both.

Overview: Intriguing race for the fillies. Crystal Bound was on the right part of the track on debut but gee she was impressive. She is bred to get further than 1200m and just needs to overcome a wide draw to go close. Trifaccia should have won the Reisling and her trial since was outstanding. She will be very strong late. Najmaty will have her supporters but I think she is way too short. Her overall figures haven’t been wow and I’m taking her on at $2.60. A Very Fine Red can run well at odds.

SUGGESTED BET: Crystal Bound to win and something on A Very Fine Red to place.

Overview: I’m with Harmony Rose here and I just think she has the most improvement being a month between runs last start and setting a very fast pace in the Vinery. She should be able to control the speed here. Hungry Heart is airborne and she overcame the bias to win the Vinery. It was a race run at a very strong speed all the same. Montefilia has claims on the back up, while Amarelinha must also go in and she has been outstanding in New Zealand.

SUGGESTED BET: Harmony Rose the horse to beat but short enough.

Overview: Good race for the three-year-olds. I was taken with Isotope’s Sydney debut and she can only go forward from that. She has a nice turn of foot and should be midfield here. September Run at her best would be too good for these but her best performances have been down the straight at Flemington. She has had genuine excuses her past two starts though. Wild Ruler is better than he showed in The Galaxy and also has claims.

SUGGESTED BET: Leaning to Isotope.

R7: SYDNEY CUP (3200m)

Overview: Competitive Sydney Cup with a host of chances. I’m going to stick with Realm Of Flowers and I loved the last run and she is proven at two miles. She’s Ideel, Rondinella, Favorite Moon, Miami Bound, Good Idea, Selino and Southern France are all capable here though and the chances don’t end there. Terrific race.

SUGGESTED BET: Leaning to Realm Of Flowers.

Overview: Addeybb is a super horse but I’ve got to be against him here unless we get substantial rain on race day. They’ve thrown the blinkers on here but I thought he was just OK fresh. Verry Elleegant is the horse to beat and she just puts in every time she goes around. She prefers it wet but she handles dry ground better than Addeybb. Sir Dragonet looms as Verry Elleegant’s big danger and he has a sense of timing about him here.

SUGGESTED BET: Verry Elleegant to win.

Overview: Hard to go past Probabeel and she picks herself here. Her recent trial was outstanding and her dry track form is clearly the benchmark here. Forgive the last start effort where she struggled in the testing conditions. Odeum, Greysful Glamour, Nimalee and Quantum Mechanic all have minor claims but Probabeel looks top pick.

SUGGESTED BET: Probabeel to win.

Overview: I like the look of Seasons here and both her runs back have been super. She maps well and should be in the finish again. The Kiwi, Entriviere must be respected and her wins in New Zealand have been outstanding. She just needs luck from the wide draw. Wandabaa maps to be closer here and should be in the finish, while Tricky Gal is well weighted here but might be looking for further and a wet track.

SUGGESTED BET: Seasons to win.
