Wet or dry won’t derail Blazejowski’s shot at Chester Manifold Stakes

Cranbourne trainer Greg Eurell won’t mind what Melbourne’s weather does in the lead-up to Saturday’s Listed Chester Manifold Stakes (1400m) at Flemington.

Rain has persisted across Melbourne since Sunday but the Bureau of Meteorology has predicted improved conditions as the week progresses.

Eurell wouldn’t mind if the forecasters were wrong as his Chester Manifold Stakes runner Blazejowski has won five from eight on soft tracks and three of 13 on good going.

“It’s not going to worry us what the weather does because he’ll handle the ground no matter what,” Eurell said.

Blazejowski gets out to 1400m on Saturday after a below-par effort at Sandown two runs back and an honest run under 62kg in the Listed Christmas Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on Boxing Day.

Eurell said blinkers were the reason for the six-year-old’s poor effort at Sandown but the Caulfield run has primed Blazejowski for Saturday’s $140,000 race.

“His Sandown run was very disappointing. He clearly over-raced and he’s a well and sound horse so he overdid everything in that race,” Eurell said.

“We took the blinkers off for his last run and I thought he was good with the big weight at Caulfield. His sectionals were good and he hit the line well.

“There was a bit of a gap before his last run so that run cleaned him up a bit and he hasn’t missed a beat since that race.”

Eurell was thrilled with Blazejowski’s work on Tuesday morning. He said the grey only needs a favourable barrier draw to be hard to beat on Saturday.

“I’m looking forward to it because he’s come out of his last run well and his work on Tuesday morning was very solid and he’s pulled up terrific,” he said.

“We’re just hoping he gets a good draw and he’ll go well on Saturday.”

Blazejowski won the Group 3 Shaftesbury Avenue Stakes (1400m) at his last run over the Flemington 1400m course in February last year.

Eurell said the son of Dash For Cash would probably have a crack at back-to-back wins in that race next month before a probable trip to Sydney.
