The Brewers have caught the National League Central-leading Cubs – if only for a moment – and they are doing it with the help of a rookie.
Keston Hiura hit the game-tying two-run home run in the ninth to force extra innings against the Pirates on Saturday. Milwaukee went on to win 12-10 in 13.
It was the team’s fourth victory in its past six games, and the Brewers are now tied with the Cubs for the lead in the Central. Chicago still has a game to finish against the Cardinals that was delayed to 11 p.m. CT.
Although Hiura’s defense has been shaky, he’s been consistent at the plate. He’s hitting .300/.354/.567 with five homers and nine RBIs in 60 at-bats.
