A celebrity love triangle has arrived at the Commonwealth Games inside the Australian swimming team with the former partner of Miley Cyrus awkwardly dating his team-mate's ex-girlfriend.

Cody Simpson, who found fame as a child pop superstar and became an accomplished actor, turned to professional swimming back in 2019 and qualified for the Birmingham showpiece following the heartbreak of missing out on the Olympics.

Simpson, now 25, dated both supermodel Gigi Hadid and Disney star turned chart-topper Miley in his younger days, is now in a relationship with Emma McKeon – who is also on the Aussie swim team.

McKeon, 28, has an astonishing 11 Olympic medals to her name including five of the gold variety and is a superstar of Australian sport.

However, it might not be such a romantic trip for the couple in the United Kingdom because her former partner Kyle Chalmers has joined them at the tournament.

Chalmers, 24, is thought to have dated McKeon for a few months back in 2021 and they have incidentally reunited after he also qualified for the team – having won Olympic gold back in 2016 and silver in Tokyo.

McKeon and Chalmers may not as be as close as they once were for obvious reasons, but they had to work together for their country this week in the 4x100m mixed medley.

Alongside William Xu Yang and Mollie O'Callaghan, the duo helped Australia to gold at the Sandwell Aquatics Centre on Friday to the joy of those Down Under.

However, the pair did not hold hands following the podium ceremony having been separated by O'Callaghan, with Simpson no doubt delighted for the team.

Simpson confirmed that he was dating McKeon earlier this month having been in a relationship with Gigi between 2013 and 2015 and Miley after they had split.

McKeon was recently asked about their blooming relationship, and noted that she is happier than ever.

She said: "Everyone's got an opinion on everything and we have a really nice relationship and we love each other's company and that's all that matters to us.

"We get along so well. We're like best friends. It's refreshing and peaceful and exciting – I'm really happy."

Both Simpson and Chalmers missed out on the 50m butterfly final having been knocked out in their respective semi-finals, with the former eyeing glory in his favourite event the 100m butterfly.

Australia have had an unsurprisingly successful start to the games as a whole, winning 10 of the first 22 gold medals available with England second in the table with three.

Aussie head coach Rohan Taylor recently spoke about the arrival of the successful singer into the squad, speaking very positively.

He said: "Cody has a really generous, humble personality, always smiling, always encouraging and supporting.

"He’s been fantastic, he’s fitted right in no problems. It’s been really enjoyable having him."
