Clippers ace Kawhi Leonard labelled ‘budget Michael Jordan’ amid comparison

Michael Jordan fans have rubbished suggestions that Kawhi Leonard is on the same level as the basketball legend.

Leonard is an elite performer and played an integral in the Toronto Raptors’ championship charge last season.

He joined the Los Angeles Clippers in July on a thee-year deal having entered free agency.

However, the 28-year-old will not play against the Milwaukee Bucks tonight because of load management

On ESPN earlier this week, NBA expert Kevin Arnovitz likened Leonard’s style to Jordan’s.

“You forget on a Wednesday night in February, who was Michael Jordan,” he explained.

“He was a guy who dominated a one on one match up on both end of the floor with his physicality and mental prowess.

“When you watch Kawhi hold the ball and slow it down, it is very reminiscent in that respect.

“I’m not putting Kawhi Leonard on Jordan’s pedestal, but I just think in possession basketball there are when you watch him back…

“It’s almost a throwback. Early mid 90s game and just watching the chess match Jordan used to play.”

NBA supporters weren’t impressed with the bold claim, though.

“Kawhi's a budget MJ and still the best player in the league. That tells you who the real GOAT is,” said one fan.

“Nowhere near, Jordan was smooth, quicker, fundamentally better. However I can see the style of play,” added a second.

“Stop comparing people to Jordan there will never be another Jordan and this is coming from a Lebron fan,” a third added.

“These comparisons to MJ have to stop it’s getting out of hand,” said one more.

The Clippers are 5-2 from seven games ahead of tonight’s showdown.
