New Orleans Saints fans in raptures as Drew Brees confirms 2020 NFL return

New Orleans Saints fans were sent into ecstasy on Tuesday after Drew Brees confirmed he would return for the 2020 NFL season.

The legendary quarterback took to Instagram to announce his plans to continue at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, despite rumours the 41 year old could choose to retire after the 2019 campaign.

On his personal Instagram account, Brees used the Saints' 'Who Dat Nation' hashtag to deliver the news to New Orleans fans.

Alongside a picture of blue skies over the sea, Brees wrote: "My feelings about the 2020 season! I look forward to the grind and the journey, for the reward at the end will be worth it!!! Love you #WhoDatNation. Let’s make another run at it!"

And supporters immediately hailed the veteran quarterback for his decision to feature in his 20th NFL season, having been drafted by the San Diego Chargers way back in 2001.

One elated Saints fan wrote: "Let’s go Breesus!"

While another added: "My prayers have been answered #WhoDat."

A third supporter replied: "Back for another season to take that win. WHODAT?"

Brees won his only Super Bowl with the Saints back in 2010, delivering New Orleans football's ultimate prize just five years after the city was devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

The quarterback was named MVP for his performance in Florida, which remains the only Super Bowl victory enjoyed by the Saints, despite the Texas-born Purdue alumnus leading the Saints to eight playoff campaigns in 14 years with the franchise.

And Saints fans urged their team to secure a second Super Bowl ring this season to send their hero into retirement in the most fitting way.

A third tweeted: "@Saints we gotta win the Super Bowl this year and let Brees retire on."
