One lucky man has unexpectedly enjoyed the fruits of Shaq’s labour while purchasing an engagement ring.
The Lakers legend was in a Zales jewellery store on Wednesday (AEST), when he spotted a male customer purchasing an engagement ring for a special someone. So, he whipped out his black card and took care of the cost — no questions asked.
In true Shaq fashion, he snapped a photo with the soon-to-be engaged stranger and shook his hand when the purchase was complete.
O’Neal discussed the heart-warming, random act of kindness, which has since gone viral on social media, during his regular appearance on TNT’s post-game show with co-hosts Adam Lefkoe, Candace Parker and Dwyane Wade.

“I went in there to get some loop earrings and I seen the guy and he was just so shy and he was saying [to the cashier], ‘Hey, how much do I owe to pay off the ring?’ I said, ‘My man, how much is the ring?’,” O’Neal said, adding that the kind gesture “is just something I do everyday.”

“I’m into making people happy, so whenever I leave the house I just try and do a good deed. I didn’t mean for that to get out. That’s not why I do it… The guy just came in, he was a young kid, hardworking guy.”
O’Neal noted the unidentified man had been paying for the ring through a layaway agreement — a form of lay-by payment agreement.
“I was like, you know what, ‘Tell your girlfriend I got it, I’ll take care of it. At first he didn’t want to take it,” O’Neal recalled, later adding, “I’m just trying to make people smile, that’s all.”
The former NBA big man is a regular in Atlanta’s Zales stores, where he has his own jewellery line. Turner Sports is headquartered in Atlanta, where Shaq films “Inside the NBA” in its regular Studio J hub.

Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce isn’t the only one laughing after the NBA star turned ESPN personality was fired by the network after a racy video incident last week.
During Tuesday’s NBA post-game show on TNT, Shaquille O’Neal couldn’t contain his laugher the moment he mentioned Pierce’s name. At the time, the Lakers legend was in the midst of a more serious discussion about how game plans were executed during the Celtics era when they had Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Garnett and Rajon Rondo.
While trying to make his point, O’Neal stopped mid-sentence to repeat Pierce’s name while chuckling. Meanwhile, his co-hosts — Adam Lefkoe, Candace Parker and Dwyane Wade — awkwardly looked in different directions while attempting to hide their laughter.

Pierce faced scrutiny over the weekend after he shared a racy Instagram Live video on Friday, which included partially nude women at an undisclosed party in LA. The footage also showed Pierce surrounded by alcohol, and a separate photo showed Pierce smoking what appeared to be marijuana. A source confirmed to The Post’s Andrew Marchand Monday that the network had parted ways with Pierce.
Despite being fired by ESPN, Pierce — who didn’t earn the nickname “The Truth” for nothing — took to Instagram to promise that “bigger and better things” are coming. He shared a short clip reassuring fans that he’s “good” and will be just fine after the incident.
Then, on Tuesday, Pierce continued his posting streak by sharing a trio of videos on his Instagram story that showed him smoking with P. Diddy’s “Bad Boy For Life” playing over them.
It’s unclear what Pierce’s next move will be, but it seems likely he’ll share the news on Instagram.
