Former NFL players die at a higher rate than their MLB counterparts, according to a study published Friday.
The study published via JAMA Network Open concluded that former NFL players died at a rate almost 1.3 times higher than their MLB counterparts. And while chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE) has become a growing concern among current and retired players in recent years, the study found retired NFL veterans were three times more likely than MLB players to die from neurodegenerative disease. They were roughly 2.5 times as likely to die of cardiovascular disease compared to baseball players.
