John Beilein’s path to recovery from double-bypass heart surgery in early August has been well-documented.
Monday, though, the Michigan basketball coach revealed something: The coaches who sent notes while Beilein healed.
Michigan State basketball coach Tom Izzo was one.
“We heard from a lot of good guys but within the first two days, when I did get to my phone, Tom had texted me two or three times,” Beilein said.
“There’s a lot of respect that Tom and I have for each other. And so that’s really good.”
Another person who reached out to Beilein? Michigan State football coach Mark Dantonio.
“Mark Dantonio sent me a really, really nice card and a note on it,” Beilein said. “A good note on it. It wasn’t like, ‘Hey, get well soon.’ It was like a long note. I don’t know Mark Dantonio at all. Really. I just talked to him one time. And that was really nice of him.
“(Izzo and Dantonio) weren’t alone. There were a lot of people all over the Big Ten that sent us goodwill or good wishes.”
Dantonio and Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh are currently in a disagreement stemming from a pregame incident between the teams before Michigan's 21-7 win over MSU on Saturday.

Beilein seemed to indicate that he was aware of the dispute.
“There’s a lot of good out there in coaching and of course, we’re all going to talk about the he said, she said and all the stuff that can happen,” Beilein said. “So I think we all wish the best for each other. But we do have rivals out there and things happen.”
As for his overall health, Beilein continues to rehab. At the moment, he feels “absolutely great.”
“I’ve been pretty vigilant, there’s a certain way I have to work out right now to get everything back to where it was. Actually, get it back to better,” Beilein said. “I feel really good. I’ve got good energy."
