Redskins QB Mark Sanchez benched after struggling against Giants

Redskins quarterback Mark Sanchez struggled against the Giants on Sunday as he was benched in the second half. 

Sanchez was replaced by Josh Johnson while Washington was down 40-0. Sanchez completed just 6-of-14 pass attempts for 38 yards and had a pair of interceptions. He hadn’t thrown a pass since 2011 until Sunday.

Early look for San Diego Fleet fans: Mark Sanchez was benched by the #Redskins and replaced by newly signed Josh Johnson.

Washington ended the first half down 34-0 and the team was met with boos as they headed into the locker room.

The Redskins signed Sanchez and Johnson shortly after starting quarterback Alex Smith and backup Colt McCoy went down with leg injuries in consecutive weeks. 

Smith broke his leg during the team’s 23-21 loss to the Texans in Week 11, and he has been dealing with complications as he remains in the hospital. It’s been reported he could miss the start of the 2019 season.
