A member of the San Francisco 49ers' cheerleading squad appeared to take a knee during the national anthem before Thursday night's game against the Oakland Raiders, according to photos and reports from the scene.
The Niners did not immediately say anything public about the move, and the cheerleader has not been identified. It is believed to be the first protest during the anthem by an NFL cheerleader.
The 49ers of course are the former team of Colin Kaepernick, the quarterback who kicked off the kneeling movement during the anthem to protest police brutality and bring attention to racial inequality in the United States.
Kaepernick has not played in the NFL since 2016 and is currently waging a collusion case against the NFL for keeping him out of the league.
