Nate Schmidt is staying in Las Vegas.
The Golden Knights on Thursday announced they have signed the suspended defenseman to a six-year contract extension worth $35.7 million.
The deal carries an average annual value of $5.95 million and keeps him with the team through the 2024-25 season.

Schmidt, 27, was selected by the Golden Knights from the Capitals during the 2017 expansion draft. He logged five goals, 31 assists and 19 penalty minutes in 76 games last season, adding three goals and four assists in the playoffs as he appeared in all 20 games of the team’s historic postseason run before falling to Washington in the Stanley Cup Final.
He was suspended 20 games last month for violating the NHL’s performance-enhancing drug policy and is set to return Nov. 18.
