NASCAR Xfinity Series at Darlington: Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s finish changed to 5th after Denny Hamlin DQ’d

After Dale Earnhardt Jr. was in a plane crash last week, he returned to the racetrack at Darlington and finished inside the top 10.

In Earnhardt’s first race since the Go Bowling 250 at Richmond Raceway in 2018, he placed fifth at the Sport Clips VFW 200 at Darlington Raceway on Saturday.

“You just never know how good you are until you come back and try it,” Earnhardt told NBC Sports after the race. “This is elite, these guys are elite, all these guys in this field do this every single week and they’re very, very talented, so to think you can take the whole year off and come back and be good is overthinking it so you just never know.”

After retiring from full-time racing in 2017, Earnhardt has run two Xfinity Series races finishing fourth last year at Richmond and now sixth this year.
