Port Adelaide key position player Dougal Howard has informed the club he would like to join St Kilda if a deal can be arranged between the two clubs.
The 23-year-old made the call on Wednesday afternoon after considering his options with North Melbourne and Essendon also vying for his services with The Age confirming reports of his decision.
However Port Adelaide's willingness to do the trade may be contingent on whether Essendon forward Orazio Fantasia decides he wants to join the Power during the upcoming trade period.
It will also be dependent on St Kilda's ability to do the trade as they now have a line of players headed by Fremantle's Brad Hill hoping to join the Saints.
Apart from Hill, Sydney's Zak Jones and Port Adelaide's Paddy Ryder have also expressed a desire to join the Saints while Richmond's Dan Butler was also a potential new arrival to the club that appointed Brett Ratten as coach in September.
Howard could command a second round pick but the Saints are still haggling over the value of Josh Bruce, who wants to join the Western Bulldogs and Jack Steven who is hoping to join Geelong while Jack Newnes remains an uncontracted free agent.
