Star Storm will do ‘whatever they can’ to keep

Craig Bellamy says the Storm will do “whatever we can” to keep off-contract warhorse lock Dale Finucane at the club beyond this season and gave a clue as to why that may still happen.

The 29-year-old NSW representative is seeking at least a three-year extension from the Storm and has several suitors keen on his services.

Bellamy wants to know what Finucane’s plans are and has left no doubt as to where he stands on the issue.

“Dale wants to know as well and we are just trying to put an offer to him that he will hopefully accept,” Bellamy said after the Storm’s 20-14 win over the Titans.

“I know our recruitment guys are working really hard at that to find some dollars here and dollars there to fit into our cap.

“He is one player I would hate to lose. I just love the way he plays and turns up every week and puts his whole effort into it.

“The other thing is what he does off the field. The standards he sets in training and preparation, I have not seen any better.”

With fullback Nicho Hynes confirming he will join the Sharks on a three-year deal from next season, Bellamy said that may well give the Storm more scope to make an offer to Finucane that is more palatable to him.

“It probably does. I am not sure how much we have saved there to give to Dale,” Bellamy said.

“You’d like to think that has made it a better chance. As far as I am concerned we will do whatever we can to keep him because he is such an important part of this club.”
