‘It was not the right time to return’: Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana reveals he turned down the chance to join Barcelona in the summer

Andre Onana has revealed he turned down the chance to return to Barcelona in the summer.
The Ajax goalkeeper came through the famed academy at the Spanish club, while there was also interest in the 23-year-old from French champions Paris Saint-Germain.
A firm offer never came from PSG, while at Barcelona he would have had to compete with Marc-Andre ter Stegen for the No 1 shirt.

And Onana decided against making a move back to Barcelona when the chance arose in the transfer window.
‘Barca came back for me this summer,’ the goalkeeper told RMC Sport.
‘It’s my home, I was part of that club. They always want one of their own to re-sign.
‘But it was not the right time to return. Maybe I’ll never get another chance! But it was not a good time to do it this summer.’
There was also interest in the 23-year-old from French champions Paris Saint-Germain
He also mentioned interest from PSG: ‘I had feedback from PSG. I had discussions with my agent. He told me of Paris and what he wanted to do.
‘What happened remains between professionals. These are the things that are managed with my agent.
‘We talked about it several times and he told me that PSG were interested.’
