Alexis Mac Allister ‘will sign for Liverpool’ as Reds seal transfer agreement

Liverpool have reportedly reached an agreement to sign Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton this summer. If all goes to plan, the World Cup winner will arrive on Merseyside in plenty of time for pre-season, with Jurgen Klopp desperate for midfield reinforcements ahead of next campaign.

Mac Allister has cemented his status as one of the Premier League’s most exciting young midfielders by putting together an excellent season, which still has three games left to run. Even among Roberto De Zerbi’s talented Brighton side, the Argentine has stood out as a class act.

Various Premier League heavyweights are rumoured to be fond of Mac Allister, but Liverpool made significant headway over the past few days and TyC Sports now claim that the parties have reached a full agreement, and the player will sign for the Reds.

The arrangement could benefit both sides, too, with Liverpool set to fork out around a hefty £70m for the player’s signature.

Mac Allister’s arrival would signal the start of a summer recruitment drive on Merseyside. Midfield was always likely to be the area of focus, given the amount of players already confirmed to be leaving at the end of the season, and the incoming Brighton star is sure to be joined by other new signings.

The Reds reportedly pulled out of the race for Jude Bellingham this summer so that they could pour their resources into multiple midfield acquisitions, rather than piling in on one. Mac Allister’s £70m fee will therefore eat into a huge chunk of their budget, but Klopp and co could now delve into a number of cheaper options on the market.

Monaco star Youssouf Fofana, who has admirers at Anfield, is believed to be available for just £22m, and with Mason Mount approaching the final year of his Chelsea contract, Klopp may fancy his chances of striking a good-value deal for the 24-year-old.

Mac Allister has proven himself to be an impressive all-rounder at Brighton, scoring 10 Premier League goals so far this season but also nurturing a reputation as a talented passer of the ball and a tenacious tackler.

Brighton are set to turn a monster profit on Mac Allister, who they signed from Argentinos Juniors in 2019 for around £7m. He became a first-team regular last season and played a prominent role in Argentina’s stunning 2022 World Cup win.

Liverpool have been tipped to hand him the coveted No 10 jersey, which has remained vacant since Sadio Mane joined Bayern Munich. The midfielder will see out the season on the south coast, with Southampton visiting the Amex Stadium on Sunday.
