Arsenal ace Joe Willock has appeared to endorse Liverpool’s reported move for Shkodran Mustafi – leaving the Gunners faithful in stitches on social media.
It is believed Mustafi, 28, has emerged as a last-minute transfer target for the Premier League champions amid their injury crisis at centre-back.
Jurgen Klopp is likely to be without first-choice centre-back pairing Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez for the remainder of the season as they continue to recover from serious knee injuries.
Fabinho, who has been operating as a makeshift centre-back in their absence, was also ruled out of last Thursday’s clash with Tottenham due to a muscle problem.
And to add to Liverpool’s woes, Joel Matip sustained ankle ligament damage in their 3-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, meaning youngsters Rhys Williams and Nat Phillips are the only natural centre-backs at Klopp’s disposal.
Reports suggest the Reds will therefore make a last-ditch attempt to sign a central defender before Monday’s transfer deadline, and Arsenal outcast Mustafi is said to be an option.
The German, who has just five months to run on his Gunners deal, has fallen out of favour under Mikel Arteta this season and is also attracting interest from Lazio.
Amid the rumours, Liverpool news blog ’The Anfield Talk’ posted a video on Twitter which shows Mustafi spraying a long-range pass across field for Arsenal, which eventually leads to a goal.
“Mustafi has got the passing range,” the caption reads.
And eagle-eyed Gunners fans were quick to point out that Willock liked the tweet in question before later unliking it, with some joking that he is desperate for the out-of-favour defender to join Liverpool.
One fan wrote: “LOOOOL I’M CRYING. Even Willock is doing his best to get Mustafi out of here.”

While another quipped: “Agent joe”.
Mustafi has made 151 appearances for Arsenal since joining from Valencia in 2016, but Arteta has only afforded him three Premier League outings so far in the 2020/21 campaign.
