Arsenal boss Arteta offers update on Mesut Ozil’s imminent Fenerbahce transfer

Mikel Arteta gave an update on Mesut Ozil's transfer to Fenerbahce after Arsenal's 3-0 win over Newcastle United.

Arteta's young guns were instrumental in lifting Arsenal into the top half of the Premier League table, with Emile Smith Rowe setting up Bukayo Saka for the second goal.

At the same time, the Gunners were preparing to say goodbye to the old guard, with Mesut Ozil in Turkey finalising his move.

The 32-year-old was pictured in Istanbul wearing Fenerbahce's colours, having reportedly agreed to waive a chunk of his salary to join his boyhood club.

After Monday's win at the Emirates, Arteta was asked for the latest on Ozil's exit.

The manager confirmed that the transfer was imminent, but insisted it was not yet a done deal.

"He's in Turkey now," said Arteta. "He is going through the medical and there is some paperwork to do.

"When the deal is finalised we will make an announcement."

Ozil has agreed an end to his seven-year stay with the Gunners after it became clear he had no future at the Emirates.
