Arsenal chief Edu forced into transfer offer because of two Emile Smith Rowe concerns

Arsenal: Arteta admits team will miss Ozil’s quality

Arsenal chief Edu has two major concerns over Emile Smith Rowe as other creative midfielders are being eyed this transfer window. Mikel Arteta gave the youngster a chance last month which he has taken with both hands.

Arsenal are looking to sign a creative midfielder this transfer window because of Smith Rowe.

The 20-year-old has been a revelation over the past month after being given a chance by Mikel Arteta.

With the Gunners desperate for more creativity in the middle, Smith Rowe has supplied it and more.

In five Premier League appearances, he has already got three assists.

It has coincided with an upturn in form, with four wins and one draw in those matches, whereas before Arsenal had managed just four wins in 14.

The Croydon-born ace currently earns around £15,000-a-week which will expire in the summer of 2023.

But Arsenal transfer chief Edu has concerns over the youngster, mainly over his age and his injury record.

Smith Rowe missed the beginning of the season through a shoulder problem while a groin strain hampered his time at RB Leipzig.

According to The Athletic, Edu is looking to sign a creative midfielder to alleviate the pressure on the whizkid.

Real Madrid star Martin Odegaard has been strongly linked with a move after the Norweigan told Zinedine Zidane he wanted to leave.

After a stunning season with Real Sociedad on loan, he returned to the Bernabeu with high hopes of breaking into the side.

But it has not worked out for him and another short-term departure is on the cards, with Arteta a huge fan.

With Mesut Ozil off the books, it has allowed the Gunners to ease the wage bill at the Emirates.

However, Arsenal did not make any money from the German’s departure to Fenerbahce – instead having to pay him off a large chunk of the £8m wages he was entitled to.
