Arsenal delay Phillipe Coutinho wage decision until Willian transfer is complete

Arsenal will reportedly decide whether they can facilitate Philippe Coutinho’s wages, once a deal is complete for Willian. The club are in talks with the Chelsea winger over a free transfer which could be finalised once the Blues’ Champions League clash with Bayern Munich is out of the way.

Willian has had the chance to extend his stay in west London but has not been able to agree a new contract.

Earlier this week, he rejected what is thought to be Chelsea’s final offer meaning negotiations are now concluded.

Arsenal are the frontrunners to land the 31-year-old, who has also been the subject of several offers from Barcelona in recent years.

Agent Kia Joorabchian also represents Coutinho and he has been speaking with Gunners chiefs about the prospect of bringing both Brazilians to the Emirates Stadium.

Coutinho is looking to return to the Premier League where he spent five years with Liverpool.

Barcelona are desperate to get him off the books while he remains on loan at Bayern Munich.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, any decision regarding Coutinho will have to wait until after the Willian deal is complete.

“He [Coutinho] has been offered to Arsenal from his agents and the same was for Tottenham some weeks ago,” Romano told the Beautiful Game Podcast.

Arsenal have already responded to Atletico Madrid’s Thomas Partey transfer ultimatum

“At the moment Tottenham has not decided to make a bid for Coutinho.

“Arsenal are considering him as an option but at the moment there is no talks to sign him, what I’m told is that they’re concentrated on the Willian deal because he is a free agent.

“They can sign him immediately and he has refused the last bid from Chelsea to extend his contract so they’re concentrated on Willian at this moment.

“Then we will see what will happen for Coutinho, Barcelona want to sell Coutinho and they’re considering him out from their project.

“Coutinho will leave Barcelona this summer we will have to see whether Arsenal accept about the wage.

“It’s an important wage to pay next season but they are considering many options for attacking midfield.

“His agent are working hard to offer the player to many clubs.”

Barcelona are willing to agree a permanent deal but a loan move with obligation is more likely for any club looking to bring in the former Liverpool attacking midfielder.
