Arsenal ‘have no intention of letting Mohamed Elneny leave this month’ despite Besiktas eyeing second loan move for the Egyptian midfielder
- Mohamed Elneny made 36 appearances for Besiktas on loan last season
- Reports had suggested the Turkish side were lining up another move this month
- But Arsenal are set to hold firm and resist any bids for the 28-year-old midfielder
- The Egyptian has made 19 appearances across all competitions this season
Arsenal are not preparing to part ways with midfielder Mohamed Elneny this month despite him being linked with a return to Besiktas, according to reports.
The 28-year-old spent last season on loan at the Turkish side and went on to make 36 appearances after former Gunners boss Unai Emery deemed him surplus to requirements.
Earlier this week, Turkish outlet Aksam reported Sergen Yalcin’s side are now keen to bring the Egyptian back on loan or even potentially on a permanent basis for a £6.3million (€7m) fee.

But according to football.london, the north London outfit have no plans to let the midfielder leave ahead of a crucial second half of the season in which they will look to challenge for the Europa League as well as finishing in the European places in the Premier League.
Elneny was given the opportunity to relaunch his Arsenal career at the start of this season by Mikel Arteta, who played with the Egypt international when they were team-mates at the Emirates Stadium for the first half of 2016.
He also held early-season favour, starting and playing well in a number of crucial matches, including the victory at Manchester United in November alongside £45m summer signing Thomas Partey.
And speaking after the win at Fulham – one of his 19 appearances so far in 2020-21 – on the opening weekend of the season, Elneny confirmed he had been receiving positive feedback from the Spaniard.
But Mikel Arteta and Arsenal are set to reject any offers for the 28-year-old midfielder
‘He [Arteta] speaks to me always, saying things like ‘we need you on the team’ and he is always giving me good feedback and always pushing me to get the best from me. I’m really happy to be here,’ said Elneny.
‘I’ll give 100 per cent every day in the training and if they give me a chance to play, I will always give 100 per cent.’
Arteta also returned the compliment after the win at Old Trafford, stating: ‘I like players who have zero ego, who want to contribute to the team whether it’s for one minute or 96 minutes and contribute all the time to our culture by giving positive feedback all the time.
‘That’s not just on the pitch, but also on the training ground when you are not selected. What can you bring to the group, how can you help and what are you contributing?

‘What Mo transmits to the team is special. Don’t forget that I played with him and I know his qualities as a person. He has this energy to create a good atmosphere whenever he goes into a room. And we need that positive feeling that he always brings.
‘Mo is a person that is admired by everyone at the club and I think he was tremendous against United at the weekend. I always believed in his qualities as a footballer and now I think he is showing them to everyone.’
The Egyptian however faces stiff competition for regular game time this season, with Dani Ceballos, Granit Xhaka, Partey and Ainsley Maitland-Niles also vying for starting midfield spots.
