Arsenal are reportedly setting their sights on Borussia Mönchengladbach midfielder Denis Zakaria.
The 24-year-old, who came through the ranks at Swiss side Servette, will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with clubs in January.
According to Bild, the tough tackling midfielder with an eye for a pass has long had his sights set on a move to the Premier League, and Arsenal could be ready to pounce.
Zakaria has been linked to a plethora of clubs recently, including Manchester United, as well as Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and Atletico Madrid.
Bild have also reported that Jose Mourinho is interested in bringing the Swiss international to Rome, after missing out on Zakaria’s international team mate Granit Xhaka during the summer.
Zakaria suffered from a problem knee injury last season but still managed 32 appearances, scoring once.
After 2 appearances at Euro 2020, including the quarter-final tie against Spain, he has been back to his best with two goals in seven Bundesliga appearances so far this season.
He also played the full 90 minutes on Wednesday as Mönchengladbach spectacularly humiliated a full strength Bayern Munich 5-0 in their DFB Pokal second round clash.
Arsenal fans will be delighted to hear that Zakaria has been compared to one of their greatest ever players, and captain of their revered invincibles side.
Talking to bundesliga.com Zakaria said: "I've been compared to [Patrick] Vieira and [Paul] Pogba – two players I really respect and, in a way, see as role models. When I watch videos of them I think I'd like to play that way.”
Would Denis Zakaria be a good signing for the Gunners? Let us know in the comments section.

That’s not the only praise the midfielder has received. After completing 100% of his passes in his first four Bundesliga matches, World Cup winner Lothar Matthaüs said: “I'm glad that Gladbach have found another pearl. At his age I was earning my first stripes for Borussia. He reminds me of Toni Kroos at that age.”
