Arsenal make £8.5m Odilon Kossounou a top target after ‘glowing references’

Arsenal are reportedly targeting a move for Club Brugge midfielder Odilon Kossounou this summer.

The Gunners are eager to strengthen in centre midfield with Arsenal icons Gervinho and Emmanuel Eboue understood to have given the club glowing references for Kossounou.

The 20-year-old Ivory Coast ace is one of the rising stars of African football and has impressed again this season.

He has helped Club Brugge to the summit of the Belgian top flight and has shone in the Europa League.

And The Mirror claim that Arsenal have made him one of their top targets for the upcoming summer transfer window.

It’s reported that Kossounou would cost around £8.5m, though Arsenal could face competition from Serie A giants Inter Milan.

Arsenal could be given a boost with the Mirror adding that playing in the Premier League is an attractive prospect for the midfielder.

Mikel Arteta currently has Real Madrid stars Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard on loan at the Emirates.

It’s believed the boss would like to keep both into next season though it may be possible so options are being kept open.

On Odegaard, Arteta said: "He is a young leader. On the pitch he is showing a lot of character and a lot of intelligence. They are characteristics that a leader should have.

"He has been here a very short time but he has adapted very quickly. He is getting more and more respect from the players and the staff and his weight on the team will increase with every week.
