Arsenal set for transfer kitty boost as Fulham eye deal for Calum Chambers

Fulham have identified Arsenal defender Calum Chambers as a potential summer transfer target as they prepare for life back in the Premier League.

The Cottagers secured promotion back to the English top flight at Wembley last week, with Joe Bryan’s extra-time brace handing them a crucial 2-1 playoff final victory over London rivals Brentford.

Scott Parker will now be keen to strengthen his squad ahead of their return to the big time, which is just over four weeks away.

And according to The Sun, Chambers is one of the names on Parker’s transfer wish list this summer.

The 25-year-old has been out of action since suffering a ruptured cruciate during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea back in December.

Nevertheless, he is now back in training and expects to be fit and firing again by the end of September.

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is looking to revamp his squad at the Emirates this summer, meaning he is unlikely to stand in the way of Chambers joining Fulham.

The centre-back enjoyed a successful loan spell at the Craven Cottage in 2018/19, which saw him crowned Fulham’s Player of the Season.

Arsenal forked out £12million to sign him from Southampton in 2014, and with just under two years remaining on his current deal he is likely to command a similar transfer fee now.

Arteta would be able to put that money towards a potential new recruit, amid reports suggesting he is eyeing up a £25million move for Ajax star Quincy Promes.

Promes, who scored 16 goals for Ajax in 2019/20, has also been linked with Premier League champions Liverpool.

But it is believed Arsenal are leading the race for his signature this summer with Arteta keen to bolster his squad.
