Barcelona president Joan Laporta reportedly believes he can lure Harry Kane to the Nou Camp because Real Madrid are focusing their attention elsewhere. Barca are claimed to have made contact with Kane’s representatives, with a move to the Catalan club attractive to the England captain.

Real have long been linked with a move for Tottenham star Kane.

The 27-year-old is yet to win any major silverware in his club career and has recently been non-committal over his future with Spurs.

Real are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland.

Los Blancos also want to take Paris Saint-Germain sensation Kylian Mbappe to the Bernabeu.

Ian McGarry of the Transfer Window podcast says Kane is third on Real’s priority list.

Barca are also interested in Haaland but McGarry says president Laporta sees Kane as a “statement signing” and one he can pull off.

McGarry said: “With Real Madrid hunting down both Kylian Mbappe and Erling Haaland, having not invested heavily in the last two windows and looking to obviously regain their status as the No 1 club in Spain, they are expected to at least sign one of those two players.

“We understand Kane is third on that list of strikers for Real Madrid but that Barcelona, and the second term of their president Joan Laporta, understands that he must make a statement signing and sees Kane as one that he might be able to persuade given that Madrid are more interested in Mbappe and Haaland.”

Kane was asked about his future while on international duty last week.

Asked if he thinks he needs to leave Spurs to win silverware, he replied: “I think that’s a hard question to answer right now.

“It’s important that all my focus is on the two England games coming up now and the rest of the season with Spurs and then the Euros.

“To be thinking about speculation or rumours would be damaging in terms of my own performance.

“I always like to be focused on one goal and one job and that’s to finish strong with Spurs, win these qualifiers with England and hopefully go on and have a great Euros.

“Look, I try to stay out of that speculation as much as possible. I’m fully focused on doing the job on the pitch from now until the end of the summer and then we’ll see where we go from there.”
