Brighton defender Ben White has been confirmed as the replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold in the England squad for Euro 2020.

The Liverpool defender was ruled out of the tournament with a thigh injury, picked up in a 1-0 friendly win against Austria last week.

It saw Gareth Southgate trial the 23-year-old on the right side of the back line in a victory against Romania of the same score yesterday.

And the camp has now confirmed that White will take Alexander-Arnold's place in the 26-man squad for the upcoming tournament.

England's campaign gets started against Croatia on June 13 before taking on Scotland and Czech Republic in their group.

Alexander-Arnold was originally selected for the campaign, joining fellow right-backs Kyle Walker, Reece James and Kieran Trippier.

But a long clearance during last Tuesday's win over Austria in the last 10 minutes saw him pull up and have to get helped off the pitch.

White earned a call-up to the 33-man squad after making 39 appearances in the Seagulls' back line.

Who should make Gareth Southgate's starting XI for the Euro 2020 opener against Croatia? Let us know in the comments section.

It comes after the youngster, who helped Leeds win promotion to the Premier League on loan the following season, played 90 minutes against Romania on Sunday.

Writing on Twitter after the game, the Brighton star said: "Full 90 under my belt. Loved every minute of it!"

But Alexander-Arnold had a different message on his social media channel, simply writing on June 4: "Absolutely gutted".

Southgate did suggest before the win against Romania that a defender would be the replacement.

"We want to see how we get through tomorrow's game as well and be able to assess everything and then we'll make a decision from there," he said in a press conference.

"So there isn't a rush. I think it's important to have time to consider everything and we're obviously talking about that as a coaching staff.

"We will know more after tomorrow's game on where everybody is physically, whether there are any more issues and it is important we get the positional balance right for the whole squad."
