Former Chelsea striker Andriy Shevchenko has emerged as the clear favourite to replace Frank Lampard as Chelsea manager as the Blues boss goes favourite himself to be the next to lose his job in the Premier League.
Chelsea have lost five of their last eight games and were comfortably beaten 2-0 by Leicester City on Tuesday night in the Premier League.
After a decent start to the season, Lampard’s side are now eighth, with West Ham leapfrogging them on Tuesday night thanks to a victory over West Brom.
Eight wins in 19 games has put Lampard under severe pressure and he admitted he was worried with his team’s form after defeat to the Foxes.
Most bookmakers now have Lampard odds-on to be the next Premier League boss to leave their post, a shorter price then bottom club Sheffield United’s Chris Wilder, or Newcastle United’s struggling boss Steve Bruce.
Favourite to replace Lampard is Shevchenko, who has been in charge of Ukraine since 2016, guiding them to qualification for this year’s European Championship, although he has never had a job in club management.
The 44-year-old signed for Chelsea in 2006, for a then record fee of £30.8m, the most an English club had ever paid for a player.
However, it was not a good time for the Ukrainian in west London making just 77 appearances for the club before departing for Dynamo Kiev.
He scored 22 goals in that time, but only nine of them came in the Premier League.
