Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich will reportedly make it his mission to beat Manchester United to the signing of Erling Haaland this summer. Haaland is the hottest property in Europe alongside Paris Saint-Germain star Kylian Mbappe. The Norway international is attracting interest from across the continent following a prolific first full season at Borussia Dortmund.

Haaland has 47 goals in 48 career appearances for Dortmund, with 31 coming in 30 games this term.

United wanted to sign the striker in January 2020 before he moved to the Bundesliga club.

The Red Devils are set to prioritise a move for Haaland at the end of this season.

But they will face plenty of strong competition, especially from Chelsea.

The Daily Star say Abramovich will do all he can to take Haaland to Stamford Bridge.

Manchester City are also set to compete for the forward’s signature this summer.

Real Madrid and Bayern Munich are interested but would prefer to wait until Haaland’s release clause of around £64m becomes active in the summer of 2022.

Abramovich is looking to gain an advantage over his rivals and pursue a deal this year, offering a fee that Dortmund would find hard to turn down.

Chelsea are set to do business with Haaland’s agent Mino Raiola, after once insisting they would not deal with the Italian again.

The Blues thought they had a deal sewn up to re-sign another of Raiola’s clients in Romelu Lukaku in the summer of 2017.

However, the Belgian instead ended up moving to United.

After losing out to the Red Devils four years ago, Chelsea are set to go head-to-head with their Premier League rivals again in the race for Haaland.

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel already has a variety of options in his squad to play the No 9 role.

Timo Werner only moved to the club last summer but has struggled in front of goal, scoring just 10 times in 38 appearances in all competitions.

Kai Havertz is Chelsea’s record signing and has only just earned a starting spot under Tuchel.

Meanwhile, Olivier Giroud is out of contract at the end of the season.

And Tammy Abraham has often found himself out of match day squads altogether since Tuchel replaced the sacked Frank Lampard in January.

That is why Chelsea and Abramovich are prioritising the signing of a top striker like Haaland this summer.
