Chelsea squad for Luton FA Cup clash confirmed as Olivier Giroud returns, N’Golo Kante out

Chelsea: Lampard confident he can cope with pressure

Chelsea take on Luton in the FA Cup fourth round today with Frank Lampard under pressure. The Blues boss will hope for a confidence-boosting victory to relieve some of the talk about his future at the club.

With that in mind Chelsea will have a strong squad available to them with N’Golo Kante the only notable absentee.

It could mean the likes of Timo Werner and Kai Havertz get more playing time to try and rediscover their form.

Olivier Giroud will also return, Chelsea boss Lampard has confirmed.

Kepa Arrizabalaga is also expected to start in goal in place of Edouard Mendy.

Lampard said: “N’Golo, on the other hand, is not fit and won’t be available.

“He’s working outside on his own with the physios at the moment and we hope to have him back as soon as possible.

“We will have to see with N’Golo, as we don’t want to rush him, but we hope to have him back by next week.”

Giroud will return after missing out against Leicester in the last match for the Blues though.

Lampard confirmed: “Olivier is fit. He trained with us today and he’s fine for the weekend.”

Mason Mount has been integral to any success Chelsea have had this season and Lampard is not sure he will be rested.

He said: “He is crucial to the team. It’s a fine balance finding rest for players who are crucial to the team, so we will see.

“At the moment he is the player in the team playing with confidence and with a work ethic. So he stays in the team for that.

“It is similar to what he turns out all the time for Chelsea, but now he is getting recognition for it.

“He is growing. Tough times are sometimes good for young players. They see how other players react and the right way to react.

“People ask me why I wouldn’t change the team, but when players are playing well, I have no problem to keep playing them.

“Of course at some stage you look for moments to rest because of the amount of games we are playing, but on the flipside Mason is as fit as they come.

“He does everything right, so if anyone can handle games and minute it’s him.”

Chelsea welcome Luton to Stamford Bridge for the 12pm kick-off.

The visitors currently sit 13th in the Championship and will want to cause an upset and pile more pressure on Lampard.
