Chelsea: Should Lampard be given more time to succeed?
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard spent around £220million in the transfer window last summer. But a poor run of form in recent weeks could lead to the Blues delving back into the market. Express Sport looks at the latest rumours coming out of the west London club.
Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has the opportunity to take advantage of UEFA’s relaxation of their Financial Fair Play rules this month, according to reports.
The Blues stated on New Year’s Eve that they continue “to comply with UEFA’s break-even criteria under the Financial Fair Play (FFP) regulations” when they announced a £32.5m profit.
Football.London say in ordinary times Chelsea’s summer splurge would have led to some issues with FFP, because clubs cannot make a loss of more than £27m across three seasons.
However, UEFA’s relaxation of rules means Chelsea are able to spend this month if they so wish.

Man Utd target eyed
Chelsea are reportedly interested in signing Manchester United target Moises Caicedo.
Ecuador international midfielder Caicedo has emerged as a target for United in recent weeks.
However, El Telegrafo claim Chelsea and Ajax are the two clubs to have been in contact with Independiente regarding a deal.
Santiago Morales, the general manager of Independiente, rubbished reports that United had made contact but confirmed another English club was interested.

Morales told Machdeportes: “There is another club interested in England and also a team of the five top leagues in Europe.
“We have two strong teams from Europe interested in him, without reaching any agreement yet, but we hope their negotiations will be quick.”
Striker signing backed
Paul Merson believes Chelsea must sign a new striker to become genuine Premier League title contenders in the near future.
Chelsea’s top scorer in the league this season is Tammy Abraham with six goals.
But Merson doesn’t believe Abraham, nor Olivier Giroud, are good enough to lead Frank Lampard’s side to major honours.
“No disrespect to Olivier Giroud or Tammy Abraham, but you are not going to win the Premier League with those as your front two,” Merson told Sky Sports.
“Giroud and Abraham do great on their day, but they are not going to be in the top six Premier League goalscorers this season, or any season.
“How many teams have won the Premier League without having a player in the top six scorers?”
