Crystal Palace vs Sheffield United LIVE: Team news, line-ups and more ahead of Premier League fixture today

Crystal Palace are hosting Sheffield United today as both clubs search for some much-needed form. The Blades are in particularly dire straits without a win all season and rooted to the bottom of the table. But they will sense an opportunity here against a Palace side who are sinking fast and in desperate need of points themselves.

Palace make two changes as Joel Ward and James McArthur come into the side for Nathaniel Clyne and Jairo Riedewald. Sheffield United are without nine senior players for a variety of reasons including some recent positive Covid-19 tests. Oli Norwood starts and the 20-year-old Jayden Bogle gets a run in the starting XI too.

Crystal Palace 0 – 0 Sheffield United

Kick off: Sheffield United start the match and boot the ball up the pitch winnign a throw in on the right hand side.

Here come the teams. On paper this game should provide us with plenty of goals but with both matches between the sides finishing 1-0 last season I’ve not got my hopes up.

Wilfried Zaha has eight Premier League goals this season, twice his final tally in 2019/20, and is on course to reach double figures in a top-flight campaign for just the second time in his career.

Palace have gone 15 top-flight matches without a clean sheet, second only to Sheffield United’s current run of 19.

The Eagles began the season with consecutive victories but have won just three of their subsequent 14 league fixtures with four draws and seven defeats.

If Sheffield United fail to win they will set a new record for most Premier League games without a victory from the start of a season, surpassing QPR’s 16-match run in 2012/13.

Sheffield United could win three consecutive league games against Crystal Palace for the first time since 1973.

The last four league meetings at Selhurst Park have produced a total of just three goals.

The focus now switches to Selhurst Park where Crystal Palace are hosting Sheffield United. Here’s a reminder of the teams:

Crystal Palace XI: Guaita, Ward, Kouyate, Tomkins, Mitchell, Townsend, Milivojevic, McArthur, Schlupp, Zaha, Benteke

Sheffield United XI: Ramsdale, Bogle, Basham, Egan, Stevens, Osborn, Ampadu, Norwood, Fleck, McGoldrick, Mousset

Reaction from goalscorer and Man of the Match, Son Heung-min who scored his 100th goal for Spurs today. He told BT Sport:

It was a really difficult game. We know how they’re doing – unbelievable job. To get a clean sheet, 3-0. To start the new year is fantastic.

“I’m very happy and grateful for my team-mates. I am not doing it alone – I need a lot of help for this big achievement.

“To score 100 goals with one team is a big thing. I’m very proud. Good way to start the new year.

“We’re working hard and working on it for a long time [his partnership with Harry Kane] I am a bit sad I couldn’t give an assist to ‘H’. He knew I was there. Sometimes it is telepathic, sometimes we talk about it.”
