Edinson Cavani has reached a final decision on his Manchester United future and a confirmation will be announced next week. It comes after the striker’s glistening display against AS Roma in the Europa League.

United star Cavani has decided to continue his stay at Old Trafford for at least another year.

It comes after strong pressure from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who has been desperate to retain his services after a fine debut campaign in the Premier League.

The Uruguay international will see his contract expire at the end of the season and there was strong interest from Boca Juniors.

Cavani’s father was also keen on his son returning to South America and had spoken to Boca chief Juan Roman Riquelme on several occasions.

The former Paris Saint-Germain frontman had been struggling for appearances but has seen his form go through the roof in recent weeks.

And his display against AS Roma on Thursday night in the Europa League has epitomised that, after two goals and three assists in a 6-2 victory.

According to ESPN, Cavani will stay at United for another season and will announce his decision next week.

There had been doubts along the way, while Boca Juniors did present an offer, but the 34-year-old has decided to snub them in favour of the Red Devils.

It follows not just his fine form in the Europa League – where he scored against Granada in the previous round – but in the Premier League too.

He has two in his last three league matches, including a fine display against Tottenham in a 3-1 victory that would go on to contribute to Jose Mourinho’s sacking.

Solskjaer has been a massive fan of the ex-Napoli hitman and made sure his feelings were heard after Thursday’s match.

“He knows my feelings,” said Solskjaer. “He knows I would love to have him here.

“Edinson is more than just a goal poacher. He is excellent at running the channels, being the focal point and bringing others into play.

“He is making up for lost time and I am delighted with him. Hopefully we will see him here for another year. I am doing my best. I promised him Old Trafford is a different place with fans.

“He must try to get that feeling, to be on our side. Manchester is a fantastic place to live.

“Of course nights like this, hopefully we can get to the final and hopefully he can see himself being here for another year.”
