Fans spot how Welbeck’s celebration against Arsenal differs to Man Utd reaction

Danny Welbeck refused to celebrate after scoring for Brighton against his old side Arsenal – despite not affording Manchester United the same respect.

Welbeck netted from the spot to put the Seagulls on level terms in their Carabao Cup tie at the Emirates after Eddie Nketiah had given the hosts the lead. Having converted the spot kick he simply picked up the ball and headed back for the centre circle as his team-mates mobbed him.

His lack of celebration was noted by Gunners fans, especially because he didn't hold back when he scored for them against his first club United back in 2016 and 2017.

One tweeted: "No celebration from Welbeck unlike when he scored for #AFC on his return to Old Trafford. Big fan of that."

A second noted: "So Welbeck decides not to celebrate against Arsenal, but against United on the other hand…"

A third wrote: "Danny Welbeck did not celebrate his goal, he did when he scored for us at Old Trafford. He is Arsenal through and through I would never boo him."

Should players not celebrate against their former sides? Let us know in the comments section.

And a fourth echoed: "Just a reminder Welbeck didn’t even slightly celebrate against us. But celebrated after knocking out Manchester United for us."

Welbeck graduated from United's academy and made 142 appearances after breaking through into the first team. But he left to join Arsenal in 2014 after finding himself out in the cold under Louis van Gaal, and spent five years with the Gunners.

His goal against them helped knock them out of the Carabao Cup tonight (November 9), though, with Brighton progressing to the last 16 of the competition with a 3-1 win.

Goals from Kaoru Mitoma and Tariq Lamptey downed Mikel Arteta's side. Welbeck and Co will find out who they face in the next round tomorrow when the draw is held following the conclusion of Aston Villa vs Manchester United.
