Rio Ferdinand has pinpointed exactly the key change made by Paul Pogba after his brilliant performance on Wednesday night.
United quickly returned to the summit following their victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage – but they did it the hard way.
Ademola Lookman opened the scoring for the home side after just five minutes.
However, the Red Devils fought back through Edinson Cavani and Pogba – with the Frenchman's strike a piece of beauty.
It marks a fine return to form from the midfielder, who also earned United the three points against Burnley earlier this month.
Despite question marks over his future, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has struck upon a formula that seems to be getting the best out of the World Cup winner.
And Ferdinand has chimed in and identified exactly why it is going so well for Pogba at the moment.
"Today he [Pogba] put in a fantastic performance," Ferdinand told BT Sport after the match on Wednesday.
"The big difference recently is he’s been playing quicker. He’s quick with what he’s doing, the efficiency is top, top drawer.
"He is a magnificent footballer and when he’s in this form, he’s one of the best."
Ferdinand is not the only one who is impressed, with Solskjaer also signing his praises after the match.
“He’s really come on," Solskjaer said. "He’s fit, he can play in midfield, he can play wide.
"That’s the key with Paul getting him match fit and running fit and he is at the moment.
“Got an early yellow card but still defended well. Stood his ground, there was one tackle in the second half that I was worried about…could have got the lad.”
United take on Liverpool next in the FA Cup in a reboot of their recent Premier League encounter – which finished 0-0.
But a winner must prevail this Sunday with replays scrapped for the season in the undoubted match of the draw.
