Arsenal could target five new players in the January transfer window as manager Mikel Arteta looks to bolster his squad.
The Gunners have suffered a difficult campaign so far this season, lying closer to the Premier League relegation zone than the European qualification spots.
And that has led to Arteta signalling a refresh is needed with his squad, as he attempts to turn their season around.
Despite their manager's time under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola, it is Arsenal ’s attacking unit that needs the most help, with the Gunners scoring just 16 goals this season.
That could lead to them targeting attacking midfielder Isco as a solution to their offensive woes.
The Real Madrid player has struggled to fulfil his potential at the Bernabeu after leaving Malaga, but has still registered 51 goals and 55 assists during his time at Los Blancos.
The Spaniard has been reported as being Arteta’s number one target in the forthcoming transfer window, with Arsenal crying out for a creative midfielder.
That need for creative help could also lead the North Londoners to Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Brandt.
The German can play across the forward line, and has mainly been deployed on the left wing.
Brandt is only in his second season at Signal Iduna Park, although he has struggled to replicate the form that saw him star for Bayer Leverkussen.
He has started just six league matches so far this season, and Sport Bild reporter Christian Falk has claimed that Arsenal players are already talking about Brandt as a potential arrival.
Meanwhile, the precarious state of French football’s finances could prompt a return to central midfielder Houssem Aouar.
The France international was heavily linked with a move to the Emirates last summer after registering 19 goals and 19 assists in just 119 Ligue 1 appearances.
With summer recruit Dani Ceballos struggling to make an impact, another look at Aouar could well be on the cards for Arteta.
A cheaper option for Arsenal would be Norwich City midfielder Emiliano Buendia, who has played a starring role as the Canaries rose to the top of the Championship.
Mainly selected as a right-winger, Buendia has scored six goals and registered seven assists in his side’s first 22 games back in the second tier.
In further proof of his creative abilities, at the point of mid-December, Buendia had created the most chances of any player in England’s top-four leagues since August 2018.
It is not only at the opponent’s end of the pitch where Arsenal need reinforcements, with Hector Bellerin linked with a return to Barcelona.
The Gunners have their eye on Brighton defender Tariq Lamptey as a replacement for Bellerin, with the 20-year-old impressing at the Amex.
Manchester City and Bayern Munich are among the clubs reported to be scouting the former Chelsea man, as Lamptey has cemented his starting spot on the right-hand side of Graham Potter’s backline.
And he could be the perfect replacement for Bellerin, making more recoveries, winning more duels and posting a higher cross success percentage than the Spaniard.
