- Arsenal came back from behind to defeat arch rivals Tottenham in a feisty derby
- Jermaine Jenas and Martin Keown were analysing the game on Match of the Day
- Sportsmail columnist Keown had claimed that Arsenal ‘deserved’ their spot-kick
- Jenas was left clearly irked by the comment and quickly fired back on the show
A furious Jermaine Jenas has been widely mocked by Arsenal supporters on social media after his clash with Martin Keown live on Match of the Day.
The two pundits were dissecting Arsenal’s North London derby triumph over their arch rivals on the BBC flagship show – but Jenas notably took exception to Keown’s insistence that the hosts ‘deserved’ a penalty.
Alexandre Lacazette netted the controversial winner from a spot-kick after Davinson Sanchez’s challenge – although Keown also admitted his former team, despite being the ‘better’ side, were fortunate to get the decision.

Alexandre Lacazette won Arsenal a penalty, and scored the winner, in controversial fashion
‘From an Arsenal perspective, Arsenal are lucky to get a penalty there,’ he said.
‘I think they ultimately deserved it, they were by far the better team on the day. Mourinho will point to the mistake by the referee.’
It was this comment from the experienced pundit, and Sportsmail columnist, that clearly irked Jenas, who played for Tottenham between 2005 and 2013.
Keown believes Arsenal’s promising display meant they ‘deserved’ to be given the decision
He quickly fired back in pure disbelief, saying: ‘That doesn’t mean you deserve a penalty in that scenario.’
With the scores locked level at the Emirates, Arsenal ace Lacazette went to ground inside the box after Sanchez crashed into him.
The Frenchman looked to have already got his shot away, however, before Tottenham’s defender made contact with him.
VAR deemed the decision from referee Michael Oliver to not be clear and obvious – with Lacazette able to step up and fire beyond Hugo Lloris.

While watching Keown and Jenas’ disagreement last night, a number of the Arsenal faithful took to Twitter to revel in the latter’s disgust.
‘Anyone know if Jermaine Jenas used to play for Tottenham?’ one user joked.
Another wrote in condescending fashion: ‘Jenas is quite upset isn’t he, bless.’
‘A delicious night-cap of Jermaine Jenas’ salty tears,’ said a popular Arsenal-centred account.
With the fanbases of both clubs questioning the spot-kick long into the night, Keown also revealed he disagreed with Oliver’s choice.
‘If you look at the referee’s position there, he’s got it completely wrong,’ he added. ‘That’s where VAR could help out in this situation.’
Jose Mourinho accused a handful of his players of ‘hiding’ during the feisty clash – and also savaged the decision to award Arsenal their penalty.
‘I don’t want to call it a penalty, because is an offence to the penalty, he said. ‘That was a mistake by Oliver.’
