Gang charged over £500,000 raid at Man City star Riyad Mahrez’s luxury penthouse

A gang have been charged over a £500,000 raid at Manchester City star Riyad Mahrez's luxury penthouse apartments.

Four men aged 21, 31, 32 and 34 have been charged with conspiracy to commit burglary relating to the break in on April 23, 2020, according to The Sun. Having appeared before magistrates last week, they are next due to appear at Manchester Crown Court on October 11.

High-end watches, jewellery, cash and signed football shirts were taken from Mahrez's penthouse during the raid, with several other luxury apartments in the same block also targeted after the gang obtained a key fob to access the building.

Amongst the items stolen from Mahrez's property were a £230,000 Richard Mille watch, a £40,000 Rolex Daytona and a £35,000 Rolex Day Date.

The gang also took £50,000 in cash, Cartier bracelets and rare football shirts with a worth totalling around £150,000. At the time of the raid, a source told The Sun: “Riyad is among an elite group who own a Mille.

"They are the ultimate dressing room status symbol. He fears he was being watched beforehand. There’s no doubt it was stolen to order.”

A letter sent to residents in the building following the break-ins read: “Four apartments were accessed without authority using a fob which had general access throughout the building. The fob in question is now in our possession, has been fully deactivated and cannot be used again.”

Mahrez is understood to have moved into the building after splitting from his ex-wife Rita Johal, with whom he has two daughters.

He now lives with his second wife and model Taylor Ward. The couple welcomed the birth of their first child, a baby girl, in July this year.

During the same month, Mahrez signed a new contract extension with City, keeping him at the Etihad Stadium until the summer of 2025.

The Algerian winger is yet to score for City so far this season, having started just four of his nine appearances across all competitions.
