How Chelsea could lineup with Erling Haaland as Frank Lampard plots new setup

Chelsea are reportedly ready to break their transfer record in an attempt to sign Erling Haaland from Borussia Dortmund this summer.

The Athletic are reporting that the Blues are ready to make a 'big push' to sign the forward, despite his €75m (£66.6m) release clause not due to come into effect until 2022.

As a result, Frank Lampard 's side will have to break the bank to tempt Dortmund to part ways with Haaland but they are said to believe that this summer will be their best chance of signing the Norwegian international, with other sides interested in the player expected to wait until his release clause becomes active.

With that in mind, Daily Star Sport takes a look at how Chelsea could lineup next season if they are able to sign Haaland.

Edouard Mendy has replaced Kepa Arrizabalaga as Lampard's number one and will likely have a back four of Reece James, Kurt Zouma, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell lining up in front of him.

When he has been fully fit, James has started ahead of Cesar Azpilicueta at right-back and England international Chilwell looks set to be a mainstay on the left.

A pairing of Zouma and Silva has been Lampard's first-choice for the majority of the season and, despite being 36, Chelsea are expected to take up the option to extend Silva's contract for a further season.

Only Timo Werner has made more Premier League starts than N'Golo Kante and the Frenchman is likely to be a mainstay in holding midfield and could be partnered by Mason Mount, who has flourished under Lampard.

Hakim Ziyech is still finding his feet at Stamford Bridge but Haaland's potential arrival could see the Morroco international take up a more central role, as he did on occasion for Ajax, and compete with Kai Havertz to become the Blues' main playmaker.

The Athletic claim that Haaland is viewed as the type of player who could compliment the struggling Werner, who would likely continue out wide on the left.

Christian Pulisic would then start on the right, with Haaland leading the line.
