Former Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho thinks Dean Henderson is ready to fill the shoes of Manchester United’s number 1 position.
Henderson returned from a two-season loan spell at Sheffield United last summer and got an extended run as first-choice goalkeeper at Manchester United in the second half of the 2020-21 campaign.
The English goalkeeper impressed on most occasions when he had the chance, and the former Red Devils boss thinks the competition between Henderson and team-mate David de Gea is positive.
Speaking to The Times, Mourinho said: “I think they are good goalkeepers. I don't think they are phenomenal goalkeepers or, in Dean Henderson's case, not yet phenomenal. When I say not yet, I say he will be.”
“I met him at [Manchester] United when he was a kid and I always remember him asking me to go on loan.

The Portuguese manager, who is set to join Roma next season after being sacked by Tottenham in April, praised Henderson’s confidence and willingness to become better.
“He told me that when he was the fourth choice.
“He is a kid with an incredible self-confidence and I think he is ready.”
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Manchester United showed their faith in Henderson when they offered him a five-year contract at the club last season.
There is still concern over De Gea’s form, having stuttered over the last few seasons, and United see Henderson as the ideal man to take charge of the nets in the coming years.
Who should be Manchester United's number 1 next season? Let us know in the comments below.
De Gea has come under constant criticism in recent times, and his Europa League final display, where he saved no penalties, was further cause for worry and added fuel to the rumours that he may leave soon due to poor form.
Despite that, no comment has been made, and Solskjaer has constantly mentioned throughout the season that both goalkeepers are important to the team.
Henderson, 24, is contracted to the club until 2025.
